On August 14th I decided to open what is the most underutilized app on my phone which is Facebook. I even have it hidden away from any of my home pages, it’s stored away in the App Library, I have to search for it anytime I want to see what is going on with my family in Mexico. Being fresh out of college I knew that I had to use the groups on Facebook way more as a way t get work and to meet other creatives like me. So I joined a couple of Florida photography and filmmaking groups. A post came up for a pixel meetup for a place called Selfie WRLD only a half an hour away from me. I saw that a hundred people have already signed up, both photographers and models so I added 1 more to that number by clicking that I was going. I have never done anything like this so as the days to the actual event started to crawl towards me I got more and more nervous yet excited. This would be a great way to meet other photographers and maybe even some models I could work with again in the future. I also recently have gotten a new Canon R5 paired with an RF 50mm lens for graduating college that I really wanted to try out, let alone on prebuilt sets.
The 19th came way faster then expected and I started to doubt my self, trying to talk my self into going as I started thinking about backing out from the event due to nerves and socializing. A ton of doubts started to enter my thoughts like “what if I can’t socialize with a single person” or “what if I walk around without even being able to get a model to photograph.” but I still got in my car the night of with my packed camera back, some water, and music blasting in the car. Even while driving towards the event I knew I could just turn right back around, go home, throw on a movie, and drink some coffee but I already made it this far. I parked in the parking lot and made my way through Florida Mall looking for Selfie WRLD. The second I walked through the door and signed in I was wowed by all the colors, lights, and sets they had ready to go for anyone wanting photos. I pushed my self to sit down next to some people and introduce my self, which came off way easier then my head was trying to make it seem it would be the past week.
The event started, I pushed my self to Immediately grab a model and we walked off to a set that caught our eyes. And the rest of the night went exactly like that, I introduced my self to a ton of other photographers, exchanged social media with as many people I could while taking portraits on all different kinds of sets and all different kinds of people. I’ll post them below
